    1912: Marie-Adélaïde, the eldest of six daughters of Guillaume IV, becomes the first reigning Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

    1986: Corazon Aquino sworn in as 1st female president of the Philippines after President Ferdinand Marcos flees the country.

    1991: Adrienne Mitchell, 1st African American woman to die in combat in Persian Gulf War, killed in barracks in Saudi Arabia.
