    1820: Susan B. Anthony, leader of 19th century women’s right movement, founder of National Women’s Suffrage Association, born.

    1836: Sarah Fuller, US educator who pioneered methods of education for deaf children, was present for 1st telephone call, born

    1848: Sarah Roberts barred from a white school in Boston. Her father filed the 1st school integration suit on her behalf.

    1879: President Rutherford B. Hayes signs a bill permitting women to practice law before the Supreme Court.

    1910: Irena Sendler, Polish member of Żegota resistance who helped save 2500 Jewish children from Nazi occupied Warsaw, born.

    1953: Tenley Albright becomes the first woman from the US to win the World Figure Skating Championship.
